Carrot Juice Bloody Mary Mix: a sweet & sexy twist on a classic
You may have noticed from my writing that I’ll try anything once if it offers aphrodisiac ingredients. That is why I agreed to try a cocktail mixer called Bunny Mary. It’s a carrot juice bloody mary mix with a surprisingly savory and tangy flavor. Its three main flavors, carrot, dill and citrus are all historically aphrodisiac but could this cocktail mix make date night more memorable? That’s what I wanted to find out!
This premade cocktail mixer was created by Mixly Cocktail Co. It’s a boutique cocktail company making mixers from real ingredients. Their newest drink, the Bunny Mary is made with just carrot juice, lemon juice, honey and dill celery and coriander extracts. It is free of preservatives. (Keep in mind, that means it has a short shelf life.)
But how does it taste?
My Bunny Mary cocktail mixer review
Mixly Cocktail Co. Bunny Mary is oddly sweet and savory at the same time. Perhaps I should say uniquely. I’m not sure oddly sounds complimentary enough because this drink is interesting, refreshing and addictive. In other words, I like it! Carrot and honey are the dominant flavors with the spices adding a savory component. The lemon adds just the right amount of zip.
If you want to compare it to a bloody mary, one of my favorite daytime drinks, I’d say this almost has the classic beat. That’s because its ability to blend with alcohol is seamless. And although the drink mix lacks the bite of chile, a dash of hot sauce works surprisingly well to give this cocktail classic bloody mary heat.
I blended it with both vodka and tequila using two parts carrot juice and one part spirit and it matched seamlessly with both spirits. Adding a dash of hot sauce can give it complexity. But I do not recommend going for more than a hint of spice. I found that more than a couple of drops made the hot sauce flavor fight against the sweetness and citrus. If you like your drink super-spicy, stick to a bloody mary. But if you’re looking for something a little bit different, this carrot juice mixer is a lot of fun.
You can also use it to create a Bunny Mary mocktail. The maker recommends mixing it with club soda or sparking water for a simple mocktail. But I found that served on the rocks, it makes a refreshing alternative to fruit juice.
What makes it sexy?
I was drinking alone when I was testing the mixer so I can’t say that it made my lover and I tumble straight into the sheets. However, as an authority on aphrodisiac foods, I can tell you that every single ingredient in this cocktail mixer is an aphrodisiac, with the exception of water. (Although water will go far in supporting a healthy sex life.)
If you are going to serve it with alcohol, remember that moderation is the key on romantic occasions when cocktails are involved. That being said, this carrot bloody mary would make a nice prelude to an evening of romance. Especially if you add a dash of hot sauce to help raise body temperature and get your spirits in the mood for some sizzling couple time. (Here’s a link to one of my favorite hot sauces.) Alternatively, you could try a dash of black pepper for a more subtle heat.
When to serve carrot juice bloody marys
Although this aphrodisiac cocktail mixer could be used to make easy date night drinks, I do feel like its flavor has a daytime vibe. It’s a good choice for packing on a picnic. (Mixly Bunny Mary is sold in 16 oz glass bottles, so pack it with padding.)
It is definitely a brunch cocktail and it’s the sort of wind down at 4 pm on a Sunday drink that might lead to a little late afternoon delight. And anyone who associates bunny drinks with Easter now knows how to give the holiday a sexy celebration. But really, you can serve it to your lover any time you want to sip something refreshing together.
Where can you buy the mix?
You can use Mixly’s store locator to find a retailer near you. Bunny Mary is sold in 16 oz bottles and retails for around $20. Or you can just order it from Amazon.com. Each bottle makes approximately six cocktails.
