Why your next vacation should be in the Maldives
For most of us, summer brings vacation. And whether it’s an understated trip to visit family or an annual pilgrimage to the seashore, mountains or favorite lake, it’s a season for planning travel. But doesn’t your summer deserve an upgrade? The announcement of the new Waldorf Astoria Maldives has me wishing for some exotic travel in my near future. If your travel plans aren’t already set, you need to listen closely. Because when you hear what this vacation has to offer, you’re going to be ready to book your tickets for this remote, Indian Ocean destination.
If you don’t already know, the Maldives are a collection of over 1,000 independent islands located south of Sri Lanka. It is a relatively successful nation and one that is a popular tourist destination for celebrities and anyone looking for a luxurious, tropical vacation.
And the new Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi provides just that. The resort stretches across three islands. Every one of the resort’s 122 villas boasts its own private infinity pool. (Need a romantic getaway? This is it!) But wait, there’s more…for guests who need a little more seclusion, there’s a private island, with two villas and five pools for your private use.
Things to do
And although the property is diminutive by resort standards, it still boasts a substantial spa. (Over 100,000 square feet of it, in fact!) Treatments are conceived to represent the elements. Guests can order from one of 30 treatments under earth, water fire and metal.
Of course, if you’re like me, you won’t even need spa treatments to keep you busy. The Maldives are world famous for the reefs and aquatic life making this remote collection of tropical islands their home. Snorkeling and diving activities could easily fill a week’s worth of vacation. And the resort offers a resident marine biologist to help guide efforts toward protecting this spectacular environment.
As you might expect, since the hotel is part of the Waldorf Astoria brand, dining is an emphasis at Ithaafushi. The hotel offers nine different restaurants plus two lounges. There’s an emphasis on Asian and Middle Eastern cuisines. And the resort tries to focus on local and sustainable choices. They even offer a garden to table restaurant, Glow, with healthy choices straight from the hotel’s gardens.
The Waldorf Astoria Maldives Ithaafushi opens on July 1, 2019. So now is the time to plan your adventure. The resort is a 30 minute trip from Malé International Airport and transfers are arranged by the resort’s fleet of four yachts. Believe me when I say that there will be nothing but the best awaiting you from the moment you land in this remote, island paradise. But just one thing…can you make some room for me in your suitcase?
Can’t make it to the Maldives right now? Try this tropical cocktail and pretend you’re on a remote island.
