DIY Yogurt and Turmeric Face Mask Recipe to Make Your Skin Glow
Turmeric is a spice with unparalleled popularity. Unlike its cousin, ginger, it’s not so much known for adding flavor but for the promise of better health, most notably slowing the signs of aging. As the nutritional world shines a spotlight on this golden spice, anyone who appreciates DIY beauty has to be wondering if turmeric’s benefits can be used for skin health. Enter the DIY yogurt and turmeric face mask.

Sexy turmeric face mask benefits
I normally speak on the benefits of turmeric to support sexual health. Did you know that turmeric has the potential to increase testosterone naturally? It’s potential to reduce inflammation could help to increase blood flow and improve sexual satisfaction. And that potential ability to reduce inflammation is part of what makes turmeric a beauty aid.
Turmeric’s natural anti-inflammatory effects are said to be why, when its applied topically, it makes skin glow. But it may also be the fact that this spice is rich in antioxidants that makes a turmeric facial give skin this dewy appearance.

Turmeric face mask for acne
Because it has proven anti-inflammatory benefits, turmeric may be one of your skin’s best defenses against acne. This may be helpful in reducing redness and swelling in scars and irritated skin.
In addition, the active compound in turmeric, curcumin, has antimicrobial properties. This means can potentially combat the bacteria that leads to acne. Could a turmeric acne face mask stop acne before it starts? Researchers can’t say for sure but there is evidence that it has worked in a lab setting.
But how well does a turmeric facial mask work?
I tried this turmeric mask recipe for two weeks. Most beauty experts recommend using a turmeric beauty treatment for 30 days to see results but I got results right away. Although I am fortunate not to suffer from acne issues, I did have some redness and irritation on my face. The turmeric and honey mask reduced the visual signs of my skin issues immediately.
Keep in mind that in addition to turmeric, the other two ingredients in this three ingredient face mask have the potential to improve skin health. Yogurt contains lactic acid, which can provide gentle exfoliation. It is also moisturizing and the probiotics in yogurt may promote regeneration.
Honey, although it is used in this mask recipe in a fairly modest amount, also has a lot of skin benefits. (And it is also one of my favorite aphrodisiac ingredients.) Like turmeric, it is antibacterial and may be beneficial to acne-prone skin.

Some turmeric face mask recipes recommend adding lemon juice to reduce the signs of age spots. However if you add too much lemon it can irritate skin so I recommend omitting this ingredient from DIY skin treatments.
How to make a turmeric face mask
You can find recipes for at home facials that include as many as five or seven ingredients but the best turmeric face mask includes just three common kitchen staples. This DIY yogurt face mask is fast and easy to make and even easier to use. But there is one thing you need to keep in mind any time you use turmeric
How to use turmeric for skin without staining everything
One important factor to remember when applying this DIY face treatment is that turmeric is not only a cooking spice but also a powerful dye. You may want to put on an old shirt and be sure to use a dark or old towel when applying and removing the mask. Also be sure to mix the face mask in a container that won’t stain, such as a glass or glazed ceramic bowl.
One last thing to consider is that individuals with a fair complexion may experience staining to their skin. However, I’m very fair and did not have any trouble with skin discoloration. Toner should remove any yellow stain.
Homemade turmeric face mask ingredients
- 1 Tbsp plain, organic Greek yogurt
- 1 tsp raw honey
- 1/2 tsp organic turmeric powder
The ingredients make 1 mask. You will also need a small glazed ceramic, glass or metal bowl and a whisk.

To assemble your turmeric yogurt face mask
Measure all three ingredients into a glass or metal bowl. You need to use a container that won’t get stained. (See the mention above on turmeric’s power to stain.)
Using a wire whisk, combine all ingredients completely. Make sure the turmeric is evenly mixed into the yogurt.
Apply to clean, dry skin either with a soft paintbrush or with your fingers.
Leave the mask on for 10-15 minutes then rinse off with warm – not hot – water.
Can you use a turmeric face mask every day?
From everything I’ve learned about this skin treatment, there’s no reason you can’t use this turmeric face treatment every day. However, most beauty experts recommend limiting use of a turmeric honey face mask to 2-3 times per week. This is primarily because cumulative use of turmeric will start to give skin a yellow tint.
I can say that from personal experience, the glow from the turmeric treatment lasted about three days. And because I apply moisturizer twice daily, I couldn’t say exactly how long the hydrating effect lasts but using the face mask twice each week was effective for me.
If you don’t have time to DIY a yogurt and turmeric face mask
If you don’t have time to make your own soothing face masks twice a week, you can always buy an over-the-counter turmeric mask. Kiehl’s Turmeric & Cranberry Mask is one that receives rave reviews for brightening skin. Or, for something organic and hydrating, you can always try our favorite avocado mask instead.
