Lavinia oh.hi for Women: a Cannabis Lubricant Review
Purchase THC-based lubricants only where cannabis is legal or if you have a valid medical card.
We’re always on the lookout for products that can turn up the heat in your sex life—and this one caught me by surprise. I’ve written plenty about foods that support vaginal health (yes, pineapple really can help), but I’d never gone near the world of lubricants… until now.
When Lavinia approached me about trying their oh.hi cannabis lube, I almost said no. I usually stick to food—or at least food-adjacent. But sexual wellness is part of the whole picture, and a healthy, happy vagina is central to pleasure and confidence. So I decided to test it myself, in the name of science, curiosity and better sex. The result? Let’s just say, THC lube is an experience worth talking about.
What is a cannabis lubricant (aka marijuana lube)?
If you’re anything like me, your first question is probably what’s a cannabis sexual lubricant and is it going to make my vagina high? (That doesn’t actually sound half bad when I see it written down.) The short answer is no. But what oh.hi does is help increase blood flow to a woman’s nether regions by using a combination of THC and CBD in a very specific formulation.
The purpose of a lube containing THC is to combine traditional lubrication with the medicinal effects of marijuana to heighten a woman’s pleasure during sex acts. The purpose of the CBD added to this marijuana lubricant is to decrease possible pain or inflammation.
Cannabis compounds like THC and CBD interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS), which plays a role in regulating pain, mood and arousal. When applied topically, THC can increase blood flow and stimulate local cannabinoid receptors. This can lead to heightened sensation and relaxation in the vaginal tissue. Although more research is needed, a 2020 paper appearing in Sexual Medicine Reviews highlighted the ECS’s potential role in female sexual function and arousal.
How does Lavinia oh.hi work?
It is applied like any other vaginal lubricant but instead of just increasing lubrication, this product is supposed to increase sensitivity and heighten sexual experiences. As I mentioned earlier, the addition of CBD to the lubricant’s formulation is intended to diminish any pain or sensitivity a woman may experience during sex.
The product was inspired by data indicating that marijuana can increase a woman’s sexual experience, including this 2019 study on the relationship between marijuana use and women’s sexual function. The intention of this THC-infused lubricant is to allow women to enjoy the effects of marijuana on sexual function without getting high. (That being said, according to oh.hi’s maker Lavinia, it is possible to absorb enough THC through topical application to potentially feel some of the marijuana’s psychoactive effects.)
All the user needs to do to enjoy oh.hi is apply one to three pumps of the lubricant approximately 15-30 minutes before a sexual encounter. It is recommended that each user experiment with the proper dose for their sexual pleasure and overall sensitivity level to the cannabis. (Note that the lubricant should be washed off with soap and water after use.)

Our cannabis lube review
This silicone-based lubricant is very light and easy to apply. It truly does take about 30 minutes to take effect, so anyone looking to increase pleasure with this product needs to plan accordingly. Its effects are a little unusual to anyone who is inexperienced in the use of topical THC. Expect your lady parts to suddenly feel very warm and it definitely increases sensitivity. I would call the effect subtle but indulgent.
If you are expecting a magic, vaginal elixir that offers cosmic orgasms, this isn’t going to do it for you. But if you just want a sexual lubricant with a little extra something, oh.hi offers a pleasurable sensation. Women who often experience pain with sex or anxiety around sexual encounters are probably the ideal customers for this product because its abilities to both warm and relax the area are this lube’s most compelling effects.
Lavinia’s lubricant, prettily packaged in 15ml bottles, is silicone-based, which means that, unlike many lubricants, it is latex-friendly. (This means it is safe to use with latex condoms.) It is also glycerin-free, hypoallergenic and unscented. Keep in mind that the THC and CBD in Lavinia’s lubricant will lose potency after one year. So once you purchase oh.hi, your assignment is to use it frequently so as not to let it go to waste!

An important note on Lavinia’s THC-based products
While there is research to support the claim that THC can increase a woman’s sexual pleasure and performance, there is no research to substantiate that applying these products topically to a woman’s vagina will result in the desired effects. It is something you will have to experiment with yourself to decide its effectiveness. (But in my experience, there’s definitely something to it.)
Of course, not every expert is convinced. Some sexual health professionals point out that most clinical studies on cannabis and sex rely on self-reported data and don’t isolate topical products. But just because we don’t have large-scale data doesn’t mean it doesn’t work. The science might be catching up, but if you’re curious and live where it’s legal, the only way to know if this kind of product will benefit you is to try it for yourself.
You can only purchase products with topical THC in states where marijuana is legal. At the time of writing, Lavinia’s oh.hi cannabis lubricant is only sold in California. You can learn more and find out where oh.hi is currently sold at ohlavinia.com.
Cannabis lubricant FAQ: Here’s what you need to know
Will I get high from using cannabis lube?
Not likely. Although Lavinia says it’s possible to feel some mild effects from topical THC, the formulation is meant to stay local. You won’t get stoned, but you might feel relaxed or warm in the area where you apply it.
How long before sex should I apply it?
Plan for at least 15 to 30 minutes before any kind of play. Like an edible, the effects take time. Some women report that waiting a little longer increases the product’s intensity.
How much THC is in a dose?
Every brand is different, but one to three pumps typically deliver about 2 to 6mg of THC. That’s a low dose by edible standards, but topical absorption can feel more intense in sensitive areas. Start with less and adjust.
Will it show up on a drug test?
It’s unlikely but not impossible. While most of the THC stays localized, small amounts can enter your bloodstream, especially with repeated use. If you’re subject to drug testing, consider a CBD-only option.
Is cannabis lube safe with condoms?
Yes, Lavinia’s oh.hi is silicone-based and safe to use with latex condoms. Just avoid mixing silicone lube with silicone sex toys, since it can degrade the material over time.
Can it help with things like vaginal dryness or pain?
Possibly. Some women say cannabis lubes help them relax, reduce tension or discomfort and make sex more enjoyable. There’s growing interest in using these products to ease menopausal dryness or pelvic floor tightness. According to Dr. Sonia Bahlani, it can help reduce pelvic pain. However, research is still limited.
