Amaro Amore Coffee Cocktail Recipe
When coffee time meets cocktail hour
Coffee is among our favorite aphrodisiacs and when we learned that August is Coffee Month we thought nothing could be better to celebrate this aphrodisiac month thank a cold, invigorating coffee cocktail. This recipe comes to us from Alie Ward and Georgia Hardstark, also known as the Cooking Channel’s Tripping Out with Alie & Georgia.
The show is about gal pal travel and somehow manages to encapsulate every episode in a cocktail, like this one. We love that it blends coffee with bitter, sweet flavor of an amaro.
What is an amaro?
Amaro is an Italian tradition. These bitter liqueurs are a little less known than some other European cocktail imports but we bet you’ve tried one at some point. If you’ve had an Aperol Spritz or Negroni at some point, you’ve had an amaro.
Amaro cocktails
The same is true if you’ve drunk the Argentine favorite of Fernet and Coke. Fernet, Campari?–These are amari. Of course, these are some of the better known amari, known by some to be “gateway amari.” But there’s a whole world of nuanced amari out there.
How to choose an amaro
Allie & Georgia don’t specify an amaro for this amaro cocktail. But what we like, blended with the bourbon and espresso, is one made from the kola nut, like Ramazotti. This will bring a hint of cocoa and vanilla to the coffee flavor. But if you want to experiment further, the Whiskey Advocate offers a guide to pairing amari with whiskies you might find useful.

Coffee cocktails are sexy cocktails
You might notices this espresso cocktail recipe’s creators call it their Amore cocktail. That’s because they recognize the aphrodisiac potential of combining a potent spirit, (bourbon), with an exotic liqueur, (amaro) and one of the best liquid aphrodisiacs of them all, coffee.
Although this isn’t a drink to imbibe before bedtime, it is a cocktail to incorporate into a night of seduction. After all, espresso can give the body that little spark of energy at just the right moment. And since coffee is a mood enhancer, we think this drink is just the thing to get you in the mood for pretty much anything.
