Three Cheers for Three Sticks Winery Gap’s Crown Chardonnay
2018 Three Sticks Wines Gap’s Crown Vineyard Chardonnay, Petaluma Gap, CA
The world as we know it has tilted a bit on its side and typical wine tastings, vineyard tours and food experiences are on hold until we are allowed to socialize in the world. For now, wine tasting or simply drinking is a private affair or shared en famille.
The pop up of virtual tastings has overtaken the Zoom world. But the tasting of the vineyard specific Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs from the talented winemaking team led by Bob Cabral at Three Sticks Wines is more than just a wine tasting.
Get to know Gap’s Crown Vineyard
Bill Price has cultivated some of the most notable vineyards in Sonoma County with the crown jewel bring the aptly named Gap’s Crown in the newly recognized Petaluma Gap AVA. Tasting over the Zoom platform can be an opportunity to discover vineyards, winemaking techniques and get to know the winemaking and growing team better.
Three Sticks winery jumped to the forefront of this new platform and had several programs where a customer can order wine shipments ranging from 3-6 bottles and spend an hour or two getting to know the people behind the winemaking and the vineyard properties themselves.
The wines I have tasted from Three Sticks winery are beautiful reflections of the terroir and, for this spate of day drinking as we navigate the coronavirus days on end, I chose the 2018 Gap’s Crown Chardonnay for it true expression of Burgundian Chardonnay that has been highly lauded by those types of reviewers that assign number (94+) but this wine is just so easy to drink and truly reflects the growing conditions of this specific area.
My review of the 2018 Three Sticks Gap’s Crown Chardonnay
At $55, it is not a bargain brand but then why should we not drink fabulous wines during our lockdown. This limited release Chardonnay from Three Sticks winery has a nose of citrus and slight oak and butter and tastes mellow and complex at the same time leaving the taster with a satisfying and robust encounter with a truly spectacular vineyard. Incidentally, it’s a vegan wine.
