Take a Napa

woman on wine with amy reiley

In the past three weeks, I attended five tasting featuring Napa Valley wines. I guess you could say I’m in a Napa state of mind! Here is just a taste of some of my favorites that would be suitable for spring—a little red, a little white and one blushing moment.
Larkmead Vineyards
2008 Sauvignon Blanc
This is a very fresh and pretty wine from one of Napa’s oldest wineries. Flavors are of fresh squeezed citrus juice and the finish is a magical combination of tart and sweet.

NapaTres Sabores
2007 Sauvignon Blanc
A super cool rendition of SB, the wine has delicate floral and passion fruit aromas. In the mouth the wine’s got big body with lemon and faint lemongrass flavors.

Waterstone
2008 Rose of Cabernet Sauvignon
A lovely, voluptuous rendition of dry rose, this wine is also one of Napa’s best buys. Its aromas and flavors are like a giant glass of strawberries and roses.

Blackbird
2007 Contrarian
If red velvet had a flavor, this wine would be it. A hipper-than-thou blend of Cab, Cab Franc and Merlot, it is super sexy with blackberry up front and lingering espresso, cocoa and truffle. Yes, truffle!

Peju
2006 Reserve Cabernet Franc
Peju is one of Napa’s finest Cabernet producers. But this wild tiger of a wine is a standout even for one of the best. Dark and masculine with cigar, black currant and eucalyptus, it’s pretty unforgettable.
