McCormick & Kuleto’s Seafood Restaurant is a San Francisco Bay Area favorite when it comes to romantic dining. My only regret on a recent visit to San Francisco is that I went with a professional contact rather than the love of my life. But I will be back. Soon, I hope.
The restaurant’s Executive Chef Liz Ozanich is an aphrodisiac aficionado. She explains, “I source the best from the land and sea when it comes to ingredients known for their purported aphrodisiac qualities. Nobody offers better quality and more choices when dining with post-meal pursuits is the order of the day, or night, as the case may be.”
A classic meal designed along these lines might begin with fresh oysters on the half shell. The restaurant always offers at least half a dozen varieties. A selection of champagne is, of course, available to accompany the shellfish and set the stage for an entrée of Dungeness Crab with Meyer Lemon Custard and American Black Caviar. For dessert, chocolate fills the bill and diners can chose between sumptuously rich chocolate cake with chocolate frosting, a dense chocolate tart or the restaurant’s signature Chocolate Bag made with Belgium chocolate filled with four kinds seasonal berries and passion fruit mousse.
Dramatic Views and Décor Help Set the Mood as Well
The food is not the only source of inspiration at McCormick & Kuleto’s. The breathtaking Bay views are legendary and the appealing decor is notable for the wood accents, high ceilings, designer light fixtures, hardwood floors and white tablecloths. The 3-tiered main dining room insures that virtually every seat in the house affords diners views second to none while at the same time providing a certain degree of intimacy as well.
Intriguing libations are also a McCormick & Kuleto’s hallmark. The restaurant’s full bar is the source of the very best classic and specialty cocktails made with premium spirits and the select wine list focuses on regional California vintages.
For those always in the mood to eat, McCormick & Kuleto’s specializes in contemporary and traditional seafood dishes with 30 fresh selections available daily, made with ingredients from sources around the world. The food is straightforward and flavorful, the servings generous and the prices reasonable. Signature menu items include house-cured Salmon Gravlax, Coconut Prawns with papaya mango salsa, pan fried Tombo with sesame seed crust, seared Mahi Mahi and Wild Sturgeon with a lavender pepper crust.
