Capofaro Resort Salina, Italy

This Newest Relais & Chateau Has Romance Written All Over It

Where to travel next? How about the newest Relais & Chateau?

We always love to see what new properties make the cut for inclusion in the illustrious Relais & Chateaus group of independent hotels and restaurants. Properties that make the grade must not only be luxurious but distinctive, unique. And most importantly to us, they must offer great food. We always look to see what’s new. But we don’t always find ourselves fantasizing about a trip to the newest Relais & Chateau property. But this time? Well, let’s just say we wish teleportation were a thing.

Experience “Il Postino”

Brand new to the Relais & Chateau family, Tenuta Capofaro, is located on Salina, one of the Aeolian Islands, (a UNESCO world heritage site). The destination might have a familiar ring. It was the location for the film “Il Postino.” That’s right, this is where the most romantic movie of all time made cinematic magic. It all happened on this secluded, Italian island. Could any setting be better for relaxing, reconnecting and rekindling those flames of passion with your other half? In fact, the motto at Capofaro is “reconnect.” And while they might be talking about balancing your mind and body, we like to think of it recharging the electric energy that draws couples to one another in the first place.

Get to know the local cuisine

Chef Ludovico De Vivo of Capofaro Relais & ChateauFood is, of course, central to the experience at this new Relais & Chateau. And as you might expect in a destination this remote, it is focused on what’s local, fresh and foragable and based on traditional, Sicilian cuisine. Much of the produce comes from the property’s own gardens. Even the wheat used to bake the breads (in-house, of course), comes from local fields. Wine is also a big part of life at Capofaro. The property is one of five estates owned by Tasca d’Almerita.

In case you need more…
