Have you heard of Oregon’s Rogue Valley wine country? Maybe its time you spent a Wine Lovers Getaway in this lesser-known, American wine region!
About the Rogue Valley wine country
The Rogue Valley is Oregon’s southernmost wine region, running along the boarder with California.
Despite the fact that you’ve never heard of it, the Rogue Valley has a rich winemaking history, dating back to the 1840s. In fact, Oregon’s first winery, Valley View, is in the Rogue Valley.
However, the region didn’t become an official American appellation until 2001.
Today, the west side of the region, which is influenced by coastal weather, specializes in cool climate grapes including Pinot Noir. But on the east side, where the weather is warmer, wineries produce Cabernets, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc.
The Rogue Valley wine region website offers four unique itineraries to help you figure out which side of the valley is best for your personal wine style.
Where to stay in the Rogue Valley
If you feel like you’re ready to fall in love with this lesser-known wine country, you should plan a wine lovers getaway at the Ashland Creek Inn. The special, offered on select weekdays in spring, includes a trio of gift cards good at Rogue Valley restaurants and wineries. (If you don’t already know, Ashland is home to two Oregon Iron Chefs.)
And although the offer isn’t good on weekends, you’re really at an advantage by planning a weekday escape.
Who wants to go wine tasting ear to elbow with all the other cool kids who have discovered this wine country gem?
And keep in mind, like most luxury inns the Ashland Creek Inn has better prices during the week than on weekends. So what are you waiting for? Go reserve your Rogue wine lovers’ getaway.
