wine recommendations from amy reiley

As far as food is concerned, the south of Franch and Spain get everything right in my book – especially in summer. What could taste better on a hot summer day than fresh garden produce and seafood plucked straight from the ocean? Especially when it is served with a glass of ice cold Rose. Americans are finally catching on to this ideal summer sort of meal. And after years of resistence, the American wine industry is finally supplying a thirsty nation with a summer’s bounty of Rose colored glasses.

Bonterra
2007 Rose
Simple and pretty, this organic little number offers strawberry and cherry blossom aromas and crisp, clean flavors that make you long for an adirondack in the sun.

Charles Krug
2008 Rose
As far as the pinks go, the Charles Krug is a serious slug of wine. Big and bright, it offers flavors of strawberry and a fun little something reminiscent of candy apples. Substantial in structure, this is a wine to serve with seasoned, grilled steaks.

Gundlach Bundschu
2007 Tempranillo Rose, Estate Vineyard
This is a medium-weight summer pink with girlishly delightful aromas of rose petals and citrus. Flavors are equally pretty with sweet strawberry and a thirst-quenching minerality to the finish.

Olathe
2008 White Lemberger
I am not a fan of wines that are both sweet and pink, but this wine could make me change my mind. Its acidity sparkles on the tongue while its flavors of strawberry and white peach quench a sweet tooth as great as mine.

Villa San Juliette
2006 Pleasant Valley Pink
A hot little number from the men who brought us American Idol, the VSJ is a rock star of Rose. Strawberry jam and rose petal aromas are followed by sweaty, salty, red berry and mineral flavors. The wine is big, ballsy and yet seductively bone dry.
