wine recommendations from amy reiley

Despite the fact that the worldwide demand for Champagne is down, the price for the big name bottles has gone sky high. Bad news for those of us hoping to ring in the New Year in style. But there are still some great finds out there for those of us willing to make the effort. Here are some of the bottles I’m considering for my big night.

Jean Milan
Cuvee Tendresse Blanc de Blancs Brut
A voluptuous, feminine wine, this B de B is surprisingly rich on the palate for its $50 price tag. Its aromas hint of meyer lemon and baking spice. Its weight is heavy on the tongue with flavors like a creamy, holiday custard.

Vanrier-Fanniere
Cuvee de Jean Fanniere Origine Blanc de Blancs Brut
The wine’s aromas and flavors deliver layers of bright fruit, beginning with fresh, ripe grapes and running all the way to dried fig. One of the more interesting wines you’ll find for the price, this bottling is sure to impress your guests.

Rene Geoffroy
Empreinte Brut
With a mouthwatering interplay of sweet and tart on the tongue, this is a truly fun wine. There is an almost candied quality to the teasing fruit flavors, which include, grape, orange and lemon zest.

Pierre Gimonnet
2000 Oenophile Blanc de Blanc Extra Brut
For those who enjoy a wine that cleanses the palate, this is a dazzling 0 dosage (meaning it was made without any dosage, making it bone dry to say the least). Though it offers no sweetness, its citrus freshness and lingering minerality will blow you away.
