a tasting of double gold winners from the 2010 world spirits awards
by amy reiley
Normally, I keep my critiques to wine. But I recently had a chance to taste a selection of the double gold winners from the 2010 World Spirits Competition. Here are some of my picks from the competition, all of which are great for getting your aphrodisiac groove on.
Pisco “O” Torontel Pisco
A grape-based brandy from Peru, this Pisco offers a lot of delicate, floral notes. At the high-end of the Pisco price spectrum, it is a product best served with subtle flavors.
Bellringer Gin
A nice product for its $18 price, this gin offers a faint sweetness with an intriguing bite at the back of the palate.
Beefeater Gin 24
A thick and syrupy product, it is an unusually weighty and exceedingly smooth gin with faint herbal notes.
El Jimador Anejo Tequila
Intriguing from start to finish, this tequila begins with spun sugar aromas. In the mouth it offers syrup-like texture and lingering buttery caramel flavor.
Rum Vizcaya VXOP Solera Rum
A rich, weighty rum with seductive vanilla and exotic spice flavors and aromas, Vizcaya slides down almost too easily. You just won’t be able to help yourself!
