After growing up in the kitchens of her two grandmothers as they prepared traditional meals for her big Italian family, Chef Annette Tomei knew her heart was in the kitchen. Within a year of being asked, “what would you do if you won the lottery tonight?” she left her career as a real estate appraiser for a diploma from the French Culinary Institute in New York City.
A strong background in business paired with years of experience in some of the best restaurants in New York City and the Napa Valley have given Chef Annette a competitive edge for a career that has spanned owning her own restaurant, working as a winery chef in Napa Valley, operating a successful private chef business, and working with two of the country’s most respected culinary schools. Her interest in wine became a passion while in the Napa Valley where she pursued professional wine studies at the Napa Valley College, The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone, and through the Court of Master Sommeliers.
In 2008, Chef Annette graduated with a Masters of Arts in Gastronomy through Le Cordon Bleu Australia. She currently lives in Brooklyn and teaches in New York City where she also dabbles with a couple of food and wine business concepts. In her “free time” she seeks out the most fabulous neighborhood restaurants, food and wine shops, and farmer’s markets; she eats and drinks way too much, cooks for the deserving, then writes about all of it!
