chaddsford wine

spring thing

by Amy Reiley

We've all celebrated Beaujolais Nouveau, (or if you haven't ever had the chance to fete the saucy winter wine of the Beaujolais region, you've been missing out. Although the wine is not one for collectors it is a drink of celebration. Beau Nouveau is the first wine released from that fall's vintage. On the day of its release each November, there is an international party with the wine flown to all points global for a transcontinental buzz). But why wait for fall to throw a party for the vintage's new wine?

At least, that's what Chaddsford Winery in Eastern Pennsylvania thinks. And I like the way they think!

Just released, Chaddsford's 2005 Spring Wine is a light, white celebration of the vintage just passed. Created with a flavor profile of spring flowers and fruit salad in mind, the wine is a flirty first taste of spring. I served my bottle with an Easter ham and, of course, a few eggs. It provided a sexy, saucy, very adult Easter taste. Any wonder we skipped the egg dying and headed straight for key lime pie and tequila after quaffing the Chaddsford wine?

(It's true: The Paas kit sits on my kitchen counter, along with a collage of empty bottles - a sweetly taunting reminder of aphrodisiac Holiday debauchery.)
