a gift from the gods for the food-loving
traveler
mapmuse.com
Aphrodite
had her muses - and thank you www world - now we have
one of our own. Mapmuse.com
does very little. It doesnt offer quippy restaurant
reviews, allow visitors to piss and moan, nor does it
offer grainy, cheap porn - not even gastroporn!
What does it do? It points you toward every cheese artisan,
farmers market, ice cream parlor and every roadfood.com
tested diner across the U.S.A. For example, I went to
the mapmuse interest directory and picked cheese farm
from the food and drink category. Up popped a U.S. map
with yellow dots promising a road trip of gastronomic
proportions. Then I refined my search with the word
goat, which gave me every farm with the
word goat in the name - far more shepherds than I ever
would have expected.
|
But
then, midwestern goat herders are not a specialty
of mine, so I decided to test my muses limits
with ice cream on Cape Cod, Massachusettes. Trust,
me, Ive licked them all. Sure, the soft serve
joint next to the grave marker shop somewhere vaguely
between Barnstable and Hyannis was missing, as was
Kates Fried Seafood Ice Cream in
Dennis - dont ask me, thats what the joints
sign reads. But all the great ones were there: Four
Seas; Ice Cream Smuggler; Whistle Stop. My mouth waters
just thinking about them.
The site will draw you a map from your current location
to the destination of your current craving, even if
its in another state. (What, you limit the experience
of pit bbq to the confines of your state line?) And
if your destination boasts a website of its own, pop
goes a new window with the fromageries personal
definition of its distinct charms.
I know where Ill be planning my next vacation.
