Kristin in Pittsburgh pulls grasshoppers from the family tree:
Domestic Goddess Grasshopper Pie

the recipe:
Crust:
1 c chocolate wafer crumbs (about 18 flat cookies)
4 T butter, melted
2 T sugar

Combine the ingredients and press most of the crumbs into the bottom and sides of a buttered 9 inch pie pan. Save some crumbs to sprinkle on top of the pie.

Bake at 350 degrees for 8 minutes.

Filling:
24 marshmallows
4 T Creme de Menthe
2 T white Creme de Cacao
2 c heavy cream, whipped
1/2 c milk

Melt marshmallows in the milk in the top of a double boiler until blended.

Cool completely. Stir in Creme de Menthe and Creme de Cacao. Beat cream until stiff and fold into marshmallow mixture. Pour into chocolate pie shell. Sprinkle with the remaining chocolate crumbs. Freeze.

May serve directly from the freezer or allow to sit out briefly before serving.

Kristin adds: The pie is the stuff of Over family legend. Kristin's mother shares a glimpse into the Grasshopper's amorous powers: I made it one Sunday afternoon after I had seen Dad looking lonesome at 1:00 am when I returned home from a date. Thought I should do something to welcome the new guy to the neighborhood. Well, he liked the pie so much that he ate 2 pieces and drank all the coffee in the pot before leaving my apartment. That was in 1968, and he thought the pie was going to be made with the kind of grasshoppers that jump and cling annoyingly to fence posts, but after the first bite… the rest is history, as they say. He tells the story with me pushing furniture in front of the door so he couldn't leave, but that isn't true!
