Kristin adds: The pie is the stuff of Over family
legend. Kristin's mother shares a glimpse into the
Grasshopper's amorous powers: I made it one Sunday
afternoon after I had seen Dad looking lonesome at
1:00 am when I returned home from a date. Thought
I should do something to welcome the new guy to the
neighborhood. Well, he liked the pie so much that
he ate 2 pieces and drank all the coffee in the pot
before leaving my apartment. That was in 1968, and
he thought the pie was going to be made with the kind
of grasshoppers that jump and cling annoyingly to
fence posts, but after the first bite
the rest
is history, as they say. He tells the story with me
pushing furniture in front of the door so he couldn't
leave, but that isn't true!
