got guava?
The
Got Milk? campaign declares it "the new burrito"
and although they may not be as easy to wrap your hands
around as a cheese quesadilla, licuados are one of the
coolest new trends to cross Latin American borders.
Made from a combination of milk, fruit, (generally the
tropical fruits indigenous to Central America) and a
pinch of sweetener, licuados represent a refreshing
twist on the old cholesterol-laden milk shake. Traditional
flavors include a ripe, exotic blend of such succulent
stars as mango, guava, pineapple, lime, passion fruit
and even plantains but as licuados migrate to more Anglo
shores, variations have been spotted including mixed
berry, peach, plum and tangerine.
Got Milk? is hot to promote licuados as the new frozen
yogurt, hoping to steer a carb-conscious North America
back to the building blocks of nutrition. As a result,
these little Latin lovers have been popping up in every
margarita bar and taco stand across California. And
for those who live outside the striking distance of
Mexican influence, Got Milk? provides a very tasty recipe
roundup at: http://www.gotmilk.com/recipes/licuados/
